Here is another antique red and green beauty! This is a late 1800's star quilt made with classic green calico for the star and various shirting materials are used in the piecework between the stars. Sashed with green calico and red and black blocks, 2 different reds are used. Note in pic 9 it looks like a fade area in the red but that is actually a combo of the two red prints--maker was obviously short on the reds!
Entirely hand pieced including the border. It has a medium weight cotton batting and a heavy muslin backing so its a nice winter weight quilt for CA!
Border green is turned under and hand sewn for the finished edge. The quilt does have some light soiling noticeable on the shirting fabric at one end and some water spotting on the backing, this is the soiled area that corresponds to the front. Also one star near the center has some soiling. There is a small L shape repair in the top layer of one triangle piece. For the very picky, there is a light color difference among some of the stars, whether this is fade or just a variation among the calico used, it is not obvious or distracting from the quilt. No holes, no glaring issues. Nice sized at 72" x 86".
