I bought this lovely quilt in Clinton, MO about twenty-five years ago from a lady who said her great aunt Maxine had made it. The Flying Geese triangles are great early prints set with smaller black and white shirting prints. The plain strips, binding and backing are ecru cotton. The Geese triangles are 4 at the widest and the columns between the Flying Geese are 4 inches wide. I have tried to point out the worst imperfections but there may be a few more hard to see pinpoint stains. The filler may be a very thin batting but I think it is a blanket. This quilt has not been laundered and you can see faint pencil lines in the quilting. I cannot put a definite age to this quilt. The prints are early 1900's.
The ecru fabric is a good quality smooth cotton, not feed sack. The quilting pattern in the columns is different than any I have seen in older quilts. This may be a two generation quilt.Aunt Maxine may have found some old Flying Geese strips in Grandma's trunk and put the quilt together. I had to darken some of the photos so you could see the quality of the stitches. The quilt shown on a full sized poster bed is 73" x 80", has no holes or tears, and is smoke free. I just noticed that l have the condition on this vintage quilt as NEW. The item "BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE FLYING GEESE HAND QUILTED QUILT" is in sale since Sunday, April 8, 2018.
