An Antique Pennsylvania LOG CABIN Quilt Top Circa 1920. Early quilt top that was completely pieced by hand. Made of wools and cottons this is from circa 1920 or a bit earlier.
There are 100 squares that make up the quilt top, each one measures 61/2. Besides being composed of a wide variety of patterned wools and cottons on the front, the fabric used for the backing of each square is also interesting. There are many different ticking fabrics, chintz fabrics, prints, homespuns and other wonderful weaves. The quilter that pieced this lovely top had the intention of making it into a "TIED" quilt, or as they are known here in South Eastern Pennsylvania, a "HAP" quilt. Look on the back and you'll see each of the backing squares has a tiny notch out of the center so the tie would pass through easily once the batting and backing were in place. In very good condition, we found only a couple of logs that need repair or replacing. All the hard hand piecing work is done... A great project for you to complete. A Beauty that when finished will span a 100 years!
