UNUSUAL Vintage What is a Fisherman? Quilt Hand Embroidered Pictorial Blocks! This CRISP, STURDY cotton blend 70's/80's fisherman's quilt is hand pieced, hand embroidered and hand quilted, with a nice dogtooth border. The following poem is hand embroidered in the center: What is a fisherman? A fisherman is someone who goes around with determination in his eyes and a hook in his pants. He is usually good for your sense of humor, and bad for your sense of smell. Fishermen come in all sizes but their stories are always tall. A fisherman will carry 30 pounds of gear and 10 pounds of equipment so he can use 5 ounces of bait in hopes of catching a 12 ounce fish.
A fisherman will spend all day catching a fish and all night reminiscing about the one that got away. He has dedication, patience, and a full case of beer to go along with an imagination that could qualify him for the Guinness Book of Records. The quilt came out of Jackson County, West Virginia and is likely a one-of-a-kind quilt. It measures 78" X 88" and is in excellent, unwashed condition, with no spots or wear.
The quilt feels strong and sturdy overall. There is quilting around the piecework, underlining the words, and in diamond, zigzag and fish designs in the background, all at 7-8 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched, rolled binding are off-white, and the batting is of thin-to-medium thickness. The RARE, WHIMSICAL DESIGN and EXTENSIVE EMBROIDERY WORK make this WELL EXECUTED vintage COLLECTOR'S QUILT stand out!
